The Invisible Walls Between You and Your Dreams
Your Reality Is A Reflection Of Your Strongest Beliefs.
Beliefs can be described as views we have about ourselves, others and the world as a whole. They determine how we think things are and how they are supposed to be. In fact, how we see the world is determined by what we have decided to believe about it.
Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it.
The sum of our beliefs, both positive ones and negative ones make up our mindset and thus our idea of reality. Everything in life, from how we see things, how we feel about them and how we react to them is determined by our subconscious belief system which is at the core of who we are.
We learn our belief systems as very little children, and then we move through life creating experiences to match our beliefs.
Most beliefs were created in our early childhood and manifested throughout our entire life. As a child, we have picked up ideas about the world through our experiences, as well as through what our parents and other important people in our lives taught us. At first, these ideas about how life works are quite flexible and we are still able to change them, but over time we gather further evidence, references and facts that prove these ideas to be true. Furthermore, by repeatedly thinking about these ideas and acting according to them over and over again, they are ingrained further and further into our subconscious. Until, at some point we have accepted these ideas as truths that shape our world and our life. And from then on, these beliefs are so deeply rooted into our nervous system that we are not even aware of them, because acting upon them seems so natural and automatic.
From then on, we hold onto to them no matter what. We hold onto them even if we have significant contradictory evidence against them. We hold onto them even if they present us with a distorted view of reality that only exists in our imagination.
And we hold onto them even if they are actually holding us back from living the life we desire.
You are only confined by the walls you build yourself.
If you are not where you want to be in an area of your life, take a close look at your beliefs. Your mindset might be holding you back from getting what you want. But the good news is: these self-limiting beliefs are only in your head and you can change them!
How to Overcome your Limiting Beliefs
Identifying and transforming your self-limiting belief requires a lot of inner work. Working with a mindset coach can speed up the process greatly.
Journaling can also be a powerful tool to shine light on the beliefs that guide your thinking and your actions. Simply ask yourself: “Why is it not possible for me to achieve my dreams?”. Let your thoughts flow on paper to come up with all the reasons that are limiting your success. It can also help to go through the most common limiting beliefs and see if they apply to you (download my free ebook about the 7 most common mental blocks here).
Once you know your superficial reasons (e.g. “I can’t start my own business because I don’t have enough experience”), go deeper by asking yourself “WHY?” over and over again. This simple method helps you get to the root belief.
Unfortunately, just being aware of your limiting beliefs is not enough to stop acting based on them. You need to rewire your brain to get out of years and years of programming! Picking an empowering belief and using it as an affirmation every day can be a great way to feed your brain with new information.
